Visit Us

The beautiful country of Nepal nestles at the foot of the mighty Himalayas, squeezed between the Indian subcontinent and Chinese Tibet. The attractions of a visit to Nepal lie not only in the majesty of the Himalayan mountains themselves, but also in their surroundings. Nepal is a country of friendly people, picturesque villages, and an amazing variety of cultures and traditions that seem to exemplify many of the attributes we have lost in the developed West.

Getting Here

Farmer House is situated on Lake Phewa, 2km from Lakeside, the tourist area of Pokhara.

Pokhara is second largest town in Nepal, and lies 200km to the west of the capital Kathmandu. It can be reached from Kathmandu by bus or aeroplane. A local bus (which in our experience has been both safe and comfortable) costs approximately 250 rupees and takes 6-8 hours, whilst a "luxury" tourist bus, such as Greenline, costs 10 Euros with lunch included. A flight with Buddha or Cosmic Air takes 35 minutes (but rarely leaves on time!!) and costs US$ 60 one way. All onward travel arrangements can be made on arrival in Kathmandu from any travel agency or hotel.

Once in Pokhara, a taxi from the airport or bus station to Farmer House should not cost more than 200 rupees.

A number of airlines fly from Europe to Kathmandu via Delhi or the United Arab Emirates for around 700 Euros return depending on the time of year.

A tourist visa can be obtained on arrival in Kathmandu. (have US$ 30 and 2 passport photos ready).

When To Come

Nepal has two main seasons: the dry season from October to May and the wet season from June to September.

If you are planning to go trekking, October and November are the most popular months. However, December and January are quieter, with great visibility but cold nights.

In Pokhara, winter days are usually clear and sunny with temperatures around 20 C, but the temperature drops quite dramatically after sunset.

The children have a one-month holiday from school, their main break, in October, and a week in November.

February to April is also a good time to visit, although it is hotter and the visibility not so good. The monsoon months of June to September are obviously wet and one can expect heavy rain most days, at least for part of the day. However, the countryside is lush and beautiful and it is still possible to trek.
